Francois Hallande was sworn in as the new French President in Paris on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. This is the first Socialist head of state since 1995.
The new president, in is his speech, recognizes that he inherits; “a massive debt, weak growth, high unemployment, degraded competitiveness, and a Europe that is struggling to come out of crisis.”
Francois Hollande promises to fight financial speculation and “open a new path” in Europe. “To overcome the crisis that is hitting it, Europe needs plans. It needs solidarity. It needs growth. To our partners, I will propose a new pact that will tie the necessary reduction of public debt with the indispensable stimulus of the economy,” he stated in his acceptance speech.
The French people are ready for change and believe that Francois Hollande’s presidency is a new opportunity to improve their country’s overall status with Europe and make things better for all people of France.
